"You don't have a hobby just for yourself but you have to share it with thousands of others" you hear sometimes. And I think
it's right. It's also the reason I'm maintaining this website since 1999 and I'm also attending events since 1996.
Magazines
In the early 90s I regularly sent pictures to Truckstar Magazine, a Dutch magazine for truck drivers and transport. I gave
me names acquaintance in this world. Especially in the mid 90s when I started to attend modelshows when I got a lot of
response. Since the internet I sent less pictures of recent MOCs. The photos they placed were getting smaller and smaller
and text became very less. But nowadays I send some pictures of new MOCs again. A littlebit publicity is always OK.
In the 90s I also sent pictures of MOCs to the companies of which I built something. Several times they published them in
their magazines like Volvo Trucks and Caterpillar.
Interviews on TV
The TV is a better medium and I have been interviewed for a few times by TV programmes in the Netherlands. The first
time one of my MOCs was to be seen on the Dutch TV was during the broadcast of 'De Heilige Koe' in the winter of 1998.
It's a program about cars but during the late 90s they also spent time on trucks and vans. That's why a camera crew
went to the European Transport Show in Amsterdam to see the news in this field. During this trade show a model
of mine was shown on the stand of
Nooteboom Trailers.
They didn't named the brand LEGO which isn't of course allowed (advertising) but the funny thing was they just showed my
model during the broadcast and not the real products of Nooteboom! Off course this was a big compliment for me.
The nicest interview was during a broadcast of 'Laat de Leeuw' in December 1999. Paul de Leeuw is a very famous
comedian in the Netherlands. In the late 90s he had a nice late night show and the editors got my address via via and
asked me if I was interested to be in his show. The reason was because it was just before the Millenium and LEGO
was exclaimed as 'Toy of the Century'. It was a live broadcast and off course I couldn't say no. I loved it! This guy really is
nuts and he really thought he had two childish guys in his show who were still 'playing' with LEGOs. But I made some
jokes and he didn't knew what to say. I got a lot of respond afterwards and I was very pleased I was invited for the show.
However it just was for eight minutes I enjoyed it every minute.
RTL Transportwereld
In 2005 another TV editor asked me if I was interested in an interview. RTL Transportwereld is a TV program about
transport (trucks, vans, logistics etc.) and they were looking for hobbyists who have
a transport related hobby. They found my website and sent me en email. Off course I couldn't say no. It's a very professional
program and they made a very nice film of it. The broadcast was very short, only three minutes. But it took almost half a
day to make the shoots and give the interview. But on beforehand I wasn't very sure about the weather. We made an
appointment on the afternoon but in the morning it was quite rainy. But when the crew arrived the sun was shining and the
weather became even better. I wanted to have the shoots outdoors because it's more real life and I take the pictures
outdoors as well. I was quite warm! The camera man was sweatting all over especially during the interview at the
attic in my place. The hobby room is quite narrow and there was nearly place for his big camera. It was another very
nice experience and I'm very pleased with this short film. I received a lot of nice respond.
These kind of things are passing you sometimes and than of course you get this opportunity with both hands. If you say
no you probably regret you didn't do it. I do not have all movies on my website yet. I'm working on it.
