I have always been impressed by those did the “Middle East run” during the 60s/70s/80s. Many western European countries did overland cargoes to countries like Saoudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan.
One of the pioneers was Astran based in Kent, United Kingdom. During the 60s they started an overland trip to the Middle East in an AEC drawbar outfit. Many trips followed and their business expended rapidly.
A couple of years ago a book was published with the history of the company. Many stories were told by the owners and drivers. I bought my copy and thought one of their Scanias LB would be a nice project to replicate in scale 1:13. I choose for a restored LB141 which I saw at a truckshow in the UK in 2014.
